EXPERIENCE

I have over 20 years' experience working as an Occupational Therapist, and for over ten years have combined continuing to work in the NHS with independent expert witness and Case Management and Occupational Therapy. I have dealt with a wide variety of injuries including:

* Traumatic Brain injury (Paediatric Young Adults and Adults) to include Walking Wounded / High Level Physical Functional Difficulties /Cognitive difficulties and Behavioural Difficulties
* Cerebral Palsy. (Paediatric and Adult)
* Stroke.
* Progressive Neurological Diseases.
* Learning disabilities. (Paediatric and Adult)
* Orthopaedic Injuries. (Paediatric and Adult)
* Amputees. (Paediatric and Adult)

I am a member of The British Society of Brain Injury case managers.

I am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules pertaining to expert witnesses. I have undertaken training for expert witnesses and continue my professional development through attending regular conferences and workshops targeted to those working in the field of medical litigation.

Fundamental experiences that ignited my passion for working alongside people who experience disability included time I spent as a young person (13yrs onwards) providing support and care to a girl born with cerebral palsy. I also met people in my local 'deaf community', learning British sign language and then employment from 16yrs working as a home support worker for Mencap Homes Foundation supporting clients with a wide range of complex and challenging learning disabilities.

I continued to be privileged in having a wide range of opportunities working as an Occupational Therapist in all major areas of health care provision. These included paediatric & adult patient groups in physical and psychiatric settings, both in acute hospital settings and in the community. I have also been fortunate to live and work as an Occupational Therapist in the United States for several years where I worked with the diverse population of patients within the Veteran's Administration (VA) Healthcare system.

This professional experience has enabled me to fully appreciate the uniqueness of each patient scenario and to develop a deep understanding of what a truly 'holistic' approach (body, mind, spirit) really means in practice.

I have worked in the field of Case Management since 2006, holding a range of cases including those following traumatic brain injury as well as after significant orthopaedic injury. In all cases the emphasis is on formulating a tailored to fit, robust but flexible rehabilitation and care plan following a process of deep listening and reflection on the information gathered.

I have Case Management experience pre and post-settlement and regularly attend conferences and workshops targeted to those working in this field.

I continue to work part time in the NHS, most recently working in the community as part of an integrated therapy service. This allows me to maintain a diverse network of professional contacts and for my clinical skills to be continually updated.
