In addition to my expert role I currently work within the Major Trauma team at a major hospital assessing Occupational Therapy needs as well as follow-up community care and therapy for those patients suffering from major trauma. I also work as an independent occupational therapist providing trauma and paediatric services

I moved to Bermuda in 1990 and worked there for 17 years as an Occupational Therapist. Initially I worked as a hospital-based OT on surgical wards and organised hospital discharges involving access and home visits and after discharge care. My role progressed setting up a paediatric-based occupational therapy service within the Bermuda Department of Health. I also worked with clients with mental health issues and assisted their return to the community including the setting up of a home group.

I returned to work in a Paediatric team within an expanding occupational therapy service specialising in the needs of children being transferred from special schools into mainstream schooling and assisting children in a development centre with the introduction and development of therapy programmes as part of the multidisciplinary team.

For five years I worked in a hospital developing and expanding the therapy and rehabilitation service. This included working closely with other professionals to set up a day hospital to include a falls group and memory clinic. I worked as rehabilitation coordinator supervising over 20 staff in the programme including occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and clinical aides. I moved to The British Virgin Islands in 2010 where for three years my practice was hospital based. I was the sole occupational therapist for the Islands treating patients in hospital and carrying out community visits.

Since returning to the UK I initially worked within a small community cottage hospital with elderly patients assessing activities of daily living. I was responsible for organising packages of care as well as providing access and home visits, and supervising junior staff

I have worked as an occupational therapist in major Trauma units including The John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford where I currently work, and Stoke Mandeville hospital, working with adults with orthopaedic trauma and polytrauma, hospital discharges, packages of care and provision of equipment to include wheelchairs and seating systems. I have also worked in A & E departments and Emergency Assessment units to assist in preventing hospital admittance.

I have experience of teaching and supporting others to learn and implement therapeutic programmes to include training in manual handling techniques.
