EXPERIENCE

I am a Registered General Nurse specialising in the full remit of Occupational Health nursing and have over 25 years’ experience in both public and private sector health care.

I currently work as Lead Occupational Health Advisor for an electrical engineering company and due to an understanding and interest in workplace mental health, have recently started an instructor role in Mental Health First Aid via MHFA (England)

In addition to my clinical roles I prepare medico-legal Occupational Health and Vocational Rehabilitation reports on quantum and breach of duty.

My experience includes all aspects of Occupational Health including:

Fitness to Work /Return to Work Advice
Health Screening and Surveillance
Ergonomic Assessments (Individuals and systems of work)
Audiometry Screening (and subsequent case management advice)
Minor Workplace Injuries Treatment / Pre-Hospital Care
Occupational and Travel Health Immunisations
Occupational Acquired Illness and Disease
Sickness Absence Assessments
Tier 3 HAVS Assessments and Case Management Advice
Vocational Assessment and Transition Services
Workplace Stress Management
Workplace Risk Assessments
Post Offer Medicals and subsequent Reasonable Adjustment Advice

My experience includes working in both the Prison and Police Services providing the full remit of Occupational Health Services from firearms medicals to assessment for specific roles, to return to work advice. I have served in a commissioned rank within the British Armies Medical Services (AMS) in Occupational Health and other nursing roles. Public sector work has included the CPS, DWP, HMRC. Private sector work has included banks, vehicle manufacturers, house builders, and bakeries.

I have developed a very broad understanding of the effects of work on health, and the effects of health on work, and I am skilled at assessing what is occupationally limiting and what is not, and have a lot of experience in report writing.

I have undergone training in medico-legal report writing and understand my role and responsibilities as an expert witness under The Civil Procedure Rules.

In addition to the formal vocational training I attend regular training events to maintain my professional development and re-validation requirements of the NMC and VRA.
