Profile

I am a qualified Paediatric Nurse with over twenty-seven years of experience in both operational nursing and management.  During my career I have cared for children with a range of conditions from birth and those with a range of conditions acquired through accident or trauma in their lives. The knowledge I have gained during my professional life has given me the experience to be able to care for children and their families, and to ensure their needs are met.

My nursing specialisms are in hepatology and metabolic nursing, neonatal and paediatric intensive care nursing, and paediatrics tracheostomy.

I have been solely responsible for recruiting nurses and carers for an independent nursing agency thereby providing the correct level of care and expertise required for children to be cared for in their home and ensuring that the correct care package is in place.

As part of my work within the NHS and the private sector, I have ensured that all compliance requirements are up to date, that staff provide the best evidence-based skills and information, and that all legal requirements are fulfilled.

In addition to practical experience, I have responsibility for making sure that long stay patients in the hospital setting are managed and cared for in the correct area, ensuring that all necessary documentation and reports are provided to Long Stay Panel members, and that Social Services reports are completed in a timely manner, enabling the child to be in hospital for the least time possible.

I am an expert and specialist advisor to the CQC on Inspection within Children and Young People Services and participate in inspections when time allows.

I keep up to date with current issues in healthcare, particularly in relation to information technology in healthcare.
