Profile

I am a qualified Registered General Nurse specialising in respiratory (BSc Hons) and general practice nursing with 30 years’ experience. I have completed the Bond Solon Excellence in Report Writing and other expert witness training, including attending Asbestos and the Law conferences. My role as expert witness nurse includes undertaking nursing care reports for asbestos related diseases and respiratory cases.

I currently work as a locum respiratory nurse specialist / senior general practice nurse in GP surgeries, hubs and other areas. I was the respiratory care lead for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other conditions. I provided an advanced role supporting GPs in the new diagnosis of respiratory conditions in both adults and children, as well as, dealing with difficult complex cases, which involved liaising with respiratory consultants.

My post-qualification experience has included both hospital and community nursing where I held posts as a senior staff nurse, respiratory nurse specialist, nursing sister and senior practice nurse.

I gained 9 years intensive care nursing experience prior to moving into specialist respiratory nursing. My respiratory role started in the community where for 9 years I provided a leading role in respiratory care to patients with a wide range of conditions and palliative care. Since 2015 my primary role has been working in GP surgeries as a respiratory nurse specialist /snr practice nurse.

I am an Assessor for the Association for Respiratory Technology & Physiology (ARTP). This involves assessing candidates in spirometry for the national register, including the objective structured clinical examinations (OSCE), marking portfolios and exams. I also deliver training and education sessions in spirometry and respiratory.

I have also spent some time doing extra additional hours as a research nurse, medico-legal records review nurse (mesothelioma cases) and expert clinical screening nurse. I regularly undertake appropriate training to ensure that my skills and knowledge are current, and evidence based. I recently attended masterclasses in respiratory to remain up to date.

I perform the full remit of duties and responsibilities of a Respiratory Nurse Specialist and Senior practice nurse including:

·                    Respiratory Care Management(includes new diagnosis and monitoring)

·                    Spirometry with Interpretation

·                    Chronic Conditions Monitoring
