Profile

I am an experienced specialist Neuro Physiotherapist with clinical practice since qualification covering both hospital and community settings in the NHS and in private practice in the UK and Europe.

I have worked with patients with a wide range of disabilities and neurological conditions.

In addition to my clinical position I provide Civil Procedure compliant expert Neuro Physiotherapy reports on treatment needs and also breach of duty reports.

My areas of experience include:

  • Stroke Care
  • Brain Injury
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Amputees
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Orthopaedic injuries
  • Degenerative Neurological Conditions

I currently work as an Associate Professor and Programme Director at the University of St Mary’s and the Physiotherapy Department. I also work as a Consultant Physiotherapist providing advice in complex cases in Neuro rehabilitation at private settings and care homes to patients who have suffered traumatic brain or spinal injury or other neurological conditions.

I also work part-time as a senior Neuro Specialist Physiotherapist at a large private London hospital that specialises in critical care and neurosurgery.

I am also the Director and treating therapist of a private physiotherapy business and a private multidisciplinary team of therapists providing home visits and consultations.

As Head Therapist at the Rehabilitation Unit I was responsible for patients with conditions that include Stroke, Brain and Spinal Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, and other neurological conditions. I am involved in care pathways with specialist clinics that include spasticity and acupuncture clinics and hydrotherapy. I have been actively involved in the creation of care pathways for Stroke and Spinal Cord injured patients.

My further specialist skills include:

  • Splinting / Casting*
  • Functional Electrical Stimulation
  • Spasticity Management

I am responsible for training, mentoring and supervision of Physiotherapists in my team and members of the interdisciplinary team.

My previous experience includes working at a Midlands community rehabilitation hospital providing both inpatient and outpatient Neuro Physiotherapy assessment and treatment.

Throughout my practice I have worked closely with multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams.

I understand my duties as an expert witness under the Civil Procedure Rules and have undertaken training in the role of an expert witness.

I regularly undertake training to ensure my skills and knowledge are current and to maintain my professional development. I completed a PhD in 2014 looking at the role of upper limb motor control and function in stroke recovery using Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) and Mirror Therapy (MT) with pre and post intervention MRIs looking on brain plasticity related changes.

I have been involved in various presentations and teaching projects designed and delivered to university undergraduates and Neuro clinicians colleagues in the UK and Worldwide.
