Profile

I have over 19 years of experience in practice as an Occupational Therapist.

I prepare Civil Procedure Compliant Expert Witness Occupational Therapy Reports for the Court covering a wide variety of complex injuries. My areas of specialty are neurological rehabilitation, progressive neurological conditions, amputation and orthopaedic injury.

The type of injuries/conditions I can report on include:

  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Orthopaedic Injury
  • Amputation
  • Spinal Injury
  • Progressive Neurological Disease
  • Functional impacts of medical conditions
  • Elderly care
  • Palliative Care

I currently work as an independent practioner, primarily with adults with neurological, orthopaedic and complex medical conditions in the community setting.  I also run group therapy programmes and exercise classes for people with neurological conditions, and I am passionate about using functional-based exercise to help improve my clients’ physical and mental well-being.

I started my career working with adults with physical disabilities/ health needs, and with older adults with mental health needs, within the NHS and Social Services.

I worked in Brisbane, Australia for 6 years (2007 – 2013), initially in a large private hospital. This role involved acute assessment and rehabilitation of people post stroke, traumatic brain injury, amputation, surgery or illness.  I also worked with people with progressive neurological conditions, helping them to maintain a quality of life.  This may have been at any stage of their journey, from initial diagnosis right through to management of end of life needs.  I was involved in the service development of the hospital’s various inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programmes.

I then successfully ran my own private practice working with clients with a wide range of illness and disability in the community. This involved assessment and treatment of younger and older adults, including but not limited to falls prevention, environmental adaptation, activities of daily living, community access, cognitive impairment (including dementia), palliative care, manual handling and neurological rehabilitation.

Since my return to the UK, I have worked with an NHS Trust Stroke Service, on the acute and rehabilitation wards. I have also been an Approved Disability Assessor for the Department of Work and Pensions.

I have extensive experience in completing home assessments, and providing advice on and/or prescribing a wide range of aids, equipment and environmental adaptations.  My various roles have involved thorough assessment of ADLs, cognition, upper limb function and functional mobility, all of which are essential in establishing future care needs.

I am skilled in being able to assess for and provide comprehensive rehabilitation programmes to meet the needs of client’s and their carers.

The ethos of my practice is always to provide a high-quality occupational therapy service to enable clients to optimise their function and improve their quality of life, whatever their condition or situation.

I understand the litigation process and my duties under the Civil Procedure Rules pertaining to Expert Witnesses and Part 35.

I regularly undertake appropriate training to ensure that my skills and knowledge are current, and to maintain my professional development.
