Community Occupational Therapist (OT)
Since 1999 I have worked in front line Adult Social Care. I worked with a wide range of conditions resulting in loss of mobility and function, sometimes within the context of complex housing and social needs. In my early career, I worked for eight years as a Mental Health OT. During an assessment, I consider the relationship between physical and mental health and how this may affect functional ability.
Clinical Project Officer
March 2017 -Sep 2018, I worked as a Clinical Project Officer to review the disability equipment provision for an NHS Trust. My remit was to ensure that the Commissioners’ drive to reduce the equipment budget took place without compromising client safety, well being and quality of intervention.
Additional Information
Moving and Handling – I am experienced in assessment and provision of equipment including hoists, overhead tracking, stand aids, profiling beds and in-bed systems.
Adaptations – This includes major adaptations such as through floor lifts, stair lifts, ramps, level access showers and other structural requirements. Minor adaptations include grab rails and steps. I have worked closely with local authorities, housing associations, Grant Officers, Surveyors and other agencies involved in adaptations. Although my work was mainly with physical problems, I also worked with clients who had learning disabilities and head injuries in the context of housing adaptations.
Multidisciplinary Working – As a community OT I have worked closely with Social Workers, Nurses, Physiotherapists and charities. I have also joint worked with other specialisms such as environmental controls and Telecare.
I attend regular training courses and conferences in order to continue my professional development.
