Profile

I am experienced Occupational Therapist and qualified in 2009.

I currently working as an independent Occupational Therapist and Moving and Handling Advisor in private practice.

I am skilled in navigating complex moving and handling scenarios and have a particular interest in single-handed/cost-effective care through the provision of equipment and increased efficiency.

For eight years post-qualification I worked for the same Local Authority Occupational Therapy service.

In addition to my clinical role, I provide expert witness reports for the Court.

My areas of expertise include:

  • Manual Handling Risk Assessments
  • Ergonomic Assessments
  • Single-Handed/Cost-effective Care
  • Aids and Equipment
  • Bariatric Manual Handling and Equipment
  • Occupational Therapy Reablement
  • Paediatric Moving and Handling
  • Orthopaedic injury and Amputation
  • Spinal injury

My clinical experience includes setting up and development of a local authority Occupational Therapy Home-safe Service. I managed the OT reablement service, which provided OT support and goal setting, alongside care packages free of charge for up to six weeks. The service was available for people being discharged from hospital needing carer support, and for those in the community who needed support to regain independence. The service also looked at cost-effective care, reducing care packages through the provision of equipment, and appropriate training.

I was fundamental to the establishment and development of the Joint Care Pathway – an integrated NHS Intermediate Care and Social Services Maximising Independence Team’s service, which superseded the successful Home-Safe service.

I managed monthly moving and handling sessions for local authority Occupational Therapists and senior reablement carers. This provided a valuable space for team members to keep up-to-date with the latest equipment, practice moving and handling techniques, and troubleshoot any particularly complex moving and handling cases they came across.

I have provided supervision to both qualified occupational therapists and support staff.

As an independent Occupational Therapist, speaker, trainer, and single-handed care consultant I regularly present and co-present at a number of moving and handling conferences and workshops for various organisations, including the Disability Living Foundation (DLF) sharing my knowledge and expertise.

I have attended and contributed to resource and equipment funding panels.

I have contributed to a Dementia fact sheet for the Disability Living Foundation.

In June 2021 I sustained a T12 incomplete spinal cord injury, and as a result I have excellent knowledge and understanding of the progression of treatment and long term effects of spinal conditions.

I have undertaken expert witness training and understand my responsibilities under The Civil Procedure Rules pertaining to expert witnesses and Part 35.

I regularly undertake appropriate training to ensure that my skills and knowledge are current, and to maintain my professional development
