Profile
I am an Occupational Therapist by background with over 30 years’ experience of working with individuals with acquired and traumatic brain injury.
I have worked as a case manager for 22 years and I am interested on the impact that sustaining a brain injury has on the individual’s family and support network.
I have an in depth understanding of the pathological, physical, cognitive, psychological, and behavioral changes in the function of each individual.
Catastrophic brain injury is life changing for the individual however the impact on their families and support networks should never be underestimated.
I have worked with adults, young people, and children at various stages of recovery and rehabilitation.
I worked as a Rehabilitation Manager in a residential setting for over 10 years with clients with complex disabilities and challenging behaviours due to the consequences of brain injury.
During this time, I gained experience, knowledge and understanding that enabled me to develop my expertise in assessing, planning therapeutic interventions, goal setting and attainment and the use of appropriate outcome measures.
I have worked as a case manager since 2002 and set up JE Jackson Ltd in 2012.
My clinical experience to date has enabled me to plan and implement rehabilitation programmes tailored to individual’s needs alongside which I am able to assess the management of risk to ensure that the client achieves their maximum potential.
I work on pre litigation cases and have a good understanding of the role of the case manager within the litigation process.
I have experience of being a witness of fact at court and have continued to work with clients post injury for many years after their case has settled.
As a clinical case manager, I have experience of putting together clinical teams using experienced clinicians, Neuropsychiatrists Neuropsychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech, and Language Therapists, Nutritionists, and personal trainers to ensure that they work cohesively as a team to meet the client’s rehabilitation needs.
I have experience of leading and managing support teams.
Working with paediatric cases I also have a good understanding of the process of ECHP both is mainstream and special educational needs schools.
I have provided client specific training for both agency providers and clients support teams; special education needs schools and mainstream m schools.
I am registered with the Health Professions Council and a member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists.
I am an advanced member of BABICAM.
I qualified in 1996 gaining a BSc, OT with the College of Occupational Therapists from St Andrews School of Occupational Therapy.
I then went onto obtain an MSc in Occupational Therapy and have since graduated with an MSc in Brain Injury Rehabilitation from Swansea University.
My dissertation focused on the use of the Swansea and St Andrews Neurobehavioral Outcome Scale (SASNOS) in relation to identifying the specific Neurobehavioral Disability that causes the greatest impact on family and primary care givers of clients who have sustained a traumatic brain injury.
I have worked in both the NHS and independent sector gaining extensive experience of the policies and procedures of both as it applied to children, young people, and adults with complex disabilities due to the consequences of both acquired and traumatic brain injury.
