Profile

I am a Registered Physiotherapist with 23 years post qualification experience within both hospital and community settings. I have specialized in Musculoskeletal conditions for the last 21 years and have worked as a Clinical specialist and Advanced practice (Extended scope) physiotherapist for the last 16 years.

I prepare Civil Procedure compliant expert witness Physiotherapy reports for the Court covering a wide variety of complex injuries.

My knowledge, skills and expertise enable me to practice as a Physiotherapy expert witness in personal injury and clinical negligence cases reporting on quantum, and liability. I am a member of the Medico-Legal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MLACP) and have received training in report writing, giving evidence, and other aspects of expert reporting.

I assess and report on the physical needs of adults who have an acquired impairment or disability and have particular experience in musculoskeletal conditions. This includes all forms of common musculoskeletal conditions such as spinal and peripheral joint pain and soft tissue injuries. The clients I assess and manage have a wide variety of conditions within this group and could include multi trauma injuries such as fractures and dislocations. I also manage clients with overuse-type injuries, which may have been sustained in the workplace or through sports or exercise such as tendinopathy e.g. tennis elbow, entrapment neuropathies e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome. I treat clients who have developed musculoskeletal conditions or disease and those who have developed to a chronic pain state. I have worked in specialist services as part of an MDT to provide pain management programs (PMP) and Functional restoration programs (FRP).

I am a qualified non-medical Independent Prescriber and I am able to prescribe medication to patients in the remit of my specialist area to facilitate pain relief and enhance physical therapy and rehabilitation. Examples include injectable steroids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), common painkillers like paracetamol and anti-neuropathic medication such as gabapentin for nerve pain. I also use steroid and local anaesthetic injections as an adjunct to my usual physiotherapy practice and this combined with the ability to prescribe medication enhances rehabilitation potential. I have worked as an Extended Scope Physiotherapist (ESP) or Advanced practice physiotherapist (APP) for 16 years within the NHS and private sector and this also involves investigating with radiological and laboratory investigations. I request x-rays, MRI and ultrasound scans and blood tests to assist with the diagnosis of clients with Musculoskeletal conditions in order to determine the best management plan for the client which may include physiotherapy, pain management, targeted injections or surgery.

I started my practice as a Physiotherapist in a hospital setting and completed core rotations in all aspects of Adult Physiotherapy care including Respiratory, Neurological and Orthopaedic conditions and Care of the Elderly before I specialised in Musculoskeletal care.

I have worked with a variety of health and social care professionals and accumulated a good knowledge of the holistic care required to support clients. I have held several posts managing clinical services and teams including both the set up and redesign of Physiotherapy and Musculoskeletal interface services. I have also over many years supervised and mentored more junior Physiotherapy staff, junior doctors, students and clinical support workers.

I have post graduate qualifications in health ergonomics. I have a lot of experience of performing ergonomic work station assessments.

I currently also work as a clinical case manager for clients who have catastrophic life changing injuries.

The ethos of my practice is always to provide a high quality Physiotherapy service to enable clients to optimise their function and improve their quality of life, whatever their condition or situation.

I understand my duties under the Civil Procedure Rules pertaining to expert witnesses and Part 35.

I attend regular training updates and seminars in order to maintain my professional development.

I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and the Health Care Professions Council.
