Profile

I am an occupational therapist with over 25 years of experience working with adults and children with complex neurological and orthopaedic disabilities. My specialism is accessible housing design with major adaptations and equipment advice.

In 2012, I became a case manager for children and adults with complex neurological conditions. In my role as a case manager, I have supported clients and their families to navigate life after their injuries. My responsibilities include:

·        undertaking detailed initial needs assessments

·        recruitment and retention of care teams, both directly employed, and agency led care

·        recruitment and management of multidisciplinary teams, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, nursing, psychology and music therapy

·        arranging specialist holidays liaising with the specialist assistance flight and holiday teams for clients that have complex needs

·        assessing for wheelchair accessible vehicles

·        budgeting and cost projections

·        preparing updated case management reports with cost projections

·        reviewing EHCP and annual review recommendations liaising with school staff and educational consultants/solicitors

Prior to case management, I worked as a senior occupational therapist in several social services teams, heading up the rapid response services providing support for complex hospital discharges, moving and handling assessments, and end of life care.

I started my own occupational therapy business in 2018. In addition to my case management role, I provide consultancy regarding housing and equipment to private clients and their architects, case managers, and solicitors.

As an occupational therapist I carefully assess function, considering what my client and their family need to be able to do within their home.  I am passionate about housing adaptations and design to create homes for my clients that reflect not only their needs but their lifestyles and aspirations for the future. I believe that if a house is designed properly, it can overcome many of the disadvantages that my clients are experiencing.

I am committed to providing excellent care and support, ensuring my practice remains current I keep updated through CPD training/learning, online webinars, reading court judgements and literature review.

I have acted as an expert witness since 2018 acting as both a single and joint expert preparing care, occupational therapy and housing reports for the courts. I have undergone training in the medico legal process and I am aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules pertaining to expert witnesses.
