Profile

Maggie is a Registered General Nurse and she trained at St Thomas's Hospital, London. She has over 30 years of experience of caring for patients both in hospitals and within the community.

From 1981, Maggie worked closely with Miss Winifred Smalley MBE for several years and she has provided expert evidence on the additional costs of caring for clients with acquired brain injury and physical handicaps for both personal injury and medical negligence claims.

Maggie was employed as Nursing Director for International Care Ltd, a division of International Hospitals Group Ltd, and was responsible for assessing, providing, and supervising care for patients, and for supplying trained nurses, social workers and care assistants in the United Kingdom and overseas.

For six years Maggie was Honorary Secretary of the Forum of Independent Nurse Managers at the Royal College of Nursing and has been Honorary Secretary of the Nursing Agency Administrators' Forum.

Maggie is a Nursing Adviser on the advisory board for Headway National and is a life member. Maggie is also an advanced member of BABICM for clients who have suffered traumatic brain injury and was also a director on the board of CMS UK from 2002 to 2004. Maggie holds a current People Handling and Risk Assessment Trainer's certificate.

In 2004 Maggie published a paper at The European Brain Injury Symposium at the Vatican on caring for clients in the community with PVS and has published other papers on costs of care in the community.  Maggie was an invited speaker on case management at the ‘Fifth World Congress for Neuro Rehabilitation’, which took place in Brasilia in September 2008, and also at the PEOPIL Annual Conference, which took place in Malta in June 2009.  She was chosen to contribute a chapter on care and case management in the recently published APIL Guide to Catastrophic Injury Claims which was updated in 2013.  Maggie also presented at the European Neuro-Convention.  She was invited to present at The International Brain Injury Association World Congress in New Orleans in March 2017 the largest international conference on the subject of brain injury – and in September 2017 she has been asked to be Honorary Chair of the Nursing Section at BIT’s 4th Annual World Congress of Orthopaedics in China.    

Maggie is currently one of two Directors of Community Case Management Services Limited (CCMS Ltd), which offers case management services for clients with profound disability. CCMS Ltd have some 60 case managers across the country and in Europe.

In 1997 Maggie established a local nursing service for the community funded by charitable donations, which provides nursing care within a patient's home. In 2011 Maggie established the Oxford and Bristol groups of The Silverlining Charity, which provides social opportunities and challenges for clients with brain injury. These groups have around 40-to-50 service users at present. Maggie also lectures at seminars across the country on costs of care, both in the public and private sectors. Every year, since 2016, Maggie has taken a group of adult brain-injured clients skiing in La Plagne and has also taken a group of children with Cerebral Palsy skiing too. Maggie has taken two groups of brain injured people on a South African Safari and taken several groups of disabled clients surfing in Cornwall and the Canary Islands.

PERSONAL PROFILE

Maggie enjoys spending time supporting her family in their pursuits and meeting friends. Her eldest daughter runs an upholstery business and her son recruits and works on business development for both CCMS and Maggie Sargent & Associates. Her youngest daughter is a solicitor and a keen horse woman. In her spare time, Maggie enjoys equestrian events, yoga and pilates, walking and keeping fit. She also spends time organising ski, surf and safari holidays for the trips for the disabled.
