Profile

I am a Registered Nurse (Specialist Practitioner) with 39 years post qualification experience.

I have considerable experience of supporting individuals living with complex conditions in the community both in the NHS and the independent sector across England ,Wales and Scotland. Since 2011 I have gained extensive experience of the care home sector.

My areas of special interest include complex care, pressure area care, medication management, falls, risk management, health and safety and mental capacity.

My immediate past experience includes working as a Regional Lead/Interim Head of Care for a housing association between July 2017 and December 2021. In this post I was responsible for the overall management of multiple services supporting individuals over the age of 55 categorised as individuals requiring general nursing care, individuals living with dementia requiring nursing care and individuals with or without dementia needing residential care. My responsibilities included clinical governance including quality improvement of service provision and human resources .At individual service level I was responsible for identifying any areas for improvement / non compliance with local or national standards and preparing action plans to support required service development.

During the COVID 19 pandemic I was responsible for reviewing infection control procedures and risk assessments across all operational sites, delivering targeting training to specific areas.

At individual practitioner level I was responsible for implementation of human resource policies including capability and performance management. I provided clinical leadership to home managers / deputies, advising on strategies for very complex service users and advice on safeguarding issues and mental capacity concerns  and deprivation of liberty safeguards.

Immediately prior to that I worked for 2.5 years as a care home manager at an 86 bed care home.  The home supported individuals requiring general care and individuals living with dementia. I managed the home through a major refurbishment, stabilised the workforce and implemented new ways of working.

My responsibility included the assessment and acceptance of individuals into the home ensuring that the home could meet their needs both from a care and equipment basis. I dealt with carer recruitment, development, supervision, and human resources leading to a transformation and improvement of the service .

I have extensive experience of working in care homes and other community settings since 2011 and have detailed my earlier work roles below.

I understand my responsibilities under Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules pertaining to expert witnesses. I have undertaken training in the role of the expert witness.
