Profile

I am an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist in Multiple Sclerosis, with 25 years of nursing experience. Currently I work as a senior MS nurse in University Hospital Coventry &Warwickshire, as part of my role I also manage a Neurology Day Case Infusion Unit. I am an independent Non-Medical Prescriber and specialise in Disease Modifying Treatments in Multiple Sclerosis. I am skilled in IV venepuncture and cannulation, various Intravenous therapies and managing IV infusion units and caring for patients undergoing a Lumbar Puncture.

Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist in MS, My role includes management of MS patients on Disease Modifying Therapies (DMT), symptom management in all MS patients along the disease trajectory and management of the IV infusion suite. I run a progressive MS clinic and a DMT clinic and a newly diagnosed MS clinic. We have a case load of approximately 2500 MS patients.

Clinical Nurse Specialist(CNS), Bon Secours Hospital, Galway, Ireland

My role as CNS involved managing a nurse led service caring for MS patients on Disease Modifying Therapies and managing an infusion service. working closely with the consultant Neurologist and overseeing approximately 1500 IV drug infusions per year, for Gastroenterology, Neurology, IVI, Iron infusions. I also taught IV cannulation and Venepuncture. I worked on protocol and pathways for IV cannulation and IV administration of drugs.

This role involved managing a nurse- led infusion unit responsible for the administration of high tech IV infusions for Neurological, Gastroenterological, Rheumatology and general medical patients. I gained extensive experience in IV Cannulation, Phlebotomy skills and managing infusion reactions and side effects.

My main duties were administering IV chemotherapy to Oncology/Haematology patients. Monitoring bloods results, IV Cannulation, educating patients on Cytotoxic therapy, managing side effects of treatment, providing psychological care.

My role as staff nurse was on a VIP unit nursing members of the Saudi Arabian Royal Family with various medical/surgical conditions. This incorporated a palace placement where I nursed on a one to one basis.

My role involves working as a staff nurse in a private hospital on a busy mixed 30 bedded ward. I gained a lot of experience in orthopaedics, general surgical/medical nursing. I also managed the ward on a regular basis, which involved bed management and preceptorship of student nurses.

As a member of Flight Cabin Crew I underwent extensive training to deal with on-board emergency situationsand monitoring safety equipment on board various aircrafts.

Care Unit, Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre, Haywards Heath, West

As a newly qualified staff nurse, my role was nursing ventilated and tracheostomized patients who had undergone neurosurgery. Namely complex patients who had intracranial pressure monitors in situ following craniotomies and severely head injured patients.
