Profile
I am a highly experienced Neuro Physiotherapist with 10 years of clinical experience in both acute hospital settings (including ward-based and ITU) and independent practice. Currently, I specialise in neurological rehabilitation within a Level 1 Brain Injury Unit (INRU) in the West Midlands, where I manage and treat individuals with complex brain injuries, neurological conditions, and post-acute recovery needs.
I provide highly specialist treatment to individuals following both traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, providing consideration to their often-complex presentation of altered tone and spasticity. My role within the inter disciplinary management of our service user's spasticity involves the production of bespoke splints, undertaking serial casting, and supporting the medical team with botulin toxin injections. I am responsible for the ongoing assessment and clinical evaluation of patients presenting within our service.
Working within the interdisciplinary team, I also support tracheostomy patients, leading their clinical management which includes the provision of complex tracheostomy weaning strategies. My clinical role also involves providing treatment and management plans of acutely unwell respiratory compromised patients.
I have gained experience that has enabled me to enhance my non-clinical skills by working closely with patients and their families leading complex and sensitive meetings.
I manage, supervise, and train non-qualified and qualified staff, including physiotherapy students, support workers and more junior therapists. I have developed and delivered clinical competency training for junior staff within the trust, supporting their professional development and thereby ensuring high standards of care are maintained and implemented across the service.
I maintain my clinical skills and keep up to date with current research and guidelines by undertaking regular inhouse and external teaching and training, which is reflected in my clinical practice and patient outcomes.
I have gained vast experience in formal report writing, which is undertaken as part of my ongoing clinical caseload
I understand my duties as an expert witness under the Civil Procedure Rules and have undertaken specialist training in this role. I regularly participate in professional development to ensure my expertise remains up to date.
