Profile
I am a highly experienced Neuro Physiotherapist with 10 years of clinical experience in both acute hospital settings (including ward-based and ITU) and private practice. Currently, I specialise in neurological rehabilitation as part of a Level 1 Brain Injury Unit (INRU) in the West Midlands, where I manage and treat individuals with complex brain injuries, neurological conditions, and post-acute recovery needs.
Areas of expertise/current clinical working environment:
· Neuro Rehabilitation: brain injury
· Stroke (hyper acute and acute units)
· Tracheostomy weaning
· Splinting and Spasticity management
· FES/PACE: completed training at WMRC, leading FES Unit in Europe
· Posture management
· Equipment issuing and reviews
I have specialist clinical physiotherapeutic rehabilitation skills for the traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury individual, alongside the management of complex high tone and spasticity with onsite splint making, serial casting, as well as, supporting the medical team with botulin toxin injections, and the ongoing pre and post management and regular spasticity reviews.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, I support and lead with the management of tracheostomy patient(s), including complex tracheostomy weaning strategies and treating and managing the acutely unwell respiratory compromised patient.
Enhanced nonclinical skills; key working, leading complex and sensitive meetings for the brain injury patient and their loved ones.
I manage, supervise, and upskill non-qualified and qualified staff (PTAs, students, B5s) daily. I have developed and led clinical competencies for junior staff for INRU to support their professional development, ensuring high standards of care are maintained and implemented across the team.
I maintain my clinical skills and keep up to date with current research and guidelines with regular in house and external teaching and training, which is reflected in my clinical practice and patient outcomes.
Experience in formal report writing for my ongoing caseload, on-going referrals and supporting the wider multidisciplinary team with the medico-legal aspect of the traumatic brain injury individual.
