Profile

I am a highly experienced adult RN with 38 years of nursing and management experience and nearly 10 years in case management.  I have a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the impact of serious and complex injuries on individuals and their families.

I have a specialist interest in the integrated nature of health needs and subsequently the delivery of appropriate support in physical, mental, emotional, and financial well-being.

Having recently completed a master’s degree in interdisciplinary psychology I have developed a deeper understanding of the value and importance of therapeutic interventions and use in positive management of outcomes.

As an experienced case manager in brain injury, spinal injuries, and multiple traumatic events I can establish positive, trusting rapport with individuals and their families.

I also advise on Care and Treatment Review panels (CETRs) for NHS England as an Expert by Experience as part of the ongoing Transforming Care/LD Autism strategy.

In addition to my clinical expertise I am co-investigator on several National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded clinical research trials into childhood neurodisability and complex behaviours. This knowledge is enhanced by having lived experience for over 20 years of complex challenging behaviour.

I began my career in nursing in 1986 at Leeds General Infirmary, working on general medicine and surgical wards and in the urology department.

I gained the District Nursing diploma in 1990 whereupon I worked for more than 20 years in various operational and management positions in community nursing across PCTs in Leeds and Bradford.

In 2016 I became a Case Manager and have worked with clients experiencing polytrauma, brain and spinal injury.  I have a long-term interest in the development of the Case Manager role in complex health and care cases.
