Profile

I am a dually qualified Registered General Nurse, and a qualified Specialist Community Public Health Nurse – Occupational Health, (the latter holding Specialist Practitioner status).

Accumulatively, I have over 30 years of registered Nursing experience and I have active registration on parts 1 & 3 of the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) register. Since qualifying as a Nurse in 1993, and after successfully completing my conversion Nursing Degree in 1998, my work has enabled me to develop a wide range of nursing skills within areas such as general surgical and medical nursing, and elderly care – the latter seeing me taking supervisory roles, to include private sector care home management.

In 2002, I entered into the world of Public Health and OH Nursing and in 2008 I went on to graduate further after successfully completing my OH Nursing degree at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. I have been actively practicing in this specialist field ever since and I have held several clinical and managerial roles for both private and public sector organisations.  I am well established in the Occupational Health Community Nursing arena, and I am known for working to high standards, and for my keen eye for detail. In recognition of my commitment to improving standards, and in providing high quality care, in 2018 I was awarded the Queens Nurse title of which I maintain by going through a robust revalidation process, annually. Further, in addition to other coaching, leadership and management training I have engaged in, I successfully completed an Executive Nurse Leadership Programme in 2019 via the QNI.

After almost 10 years of working within the public sector, in my quest to ensure that some myths around Occupational Health Community Nursing were quashed, and in order to drive forward my own passion in delivering high standards of care, I founded my own Occupational Health and workplace wellbeing business.  Over many years, I have gained a wealth of experience of working with a carousel of clients from varying industries such as education, health care and emergency services, abattoir establishments, the hospitality industry, and scientific, laboratory and research environments; I am diligent in communicating and guiding best practise to meet the needs of all involved.

I regularly engage in clinical / peer supervision and I keep myself updated by attending regular training updates and seminars in order to maintain my professional development. I have also engaged in Expert Witness training, and as such, I understand my duties under the Civil Procedure Rules pertaining to expert witnesses and Part 35.

Since qualifying as a Nurse in 1993, I have held various key roles in both hospital and community based care home sector/s (elderly Nursing and Residential care). During this time, my Nursing roles have involved general and high dependency Nursing and palliative care, staff supervision, multi-agency team working, medicine management and drug administration, wound care, client assessment for admission / discharge planning, rehabilitation, tutoring and NVQ assessing, and delivery of health promotion and education.

As outlined previously, in 2002 I moved into Public Health and Occupational Health Nursing, and since this time I have worked in both clinical and managerial roles. I also work as an Independent Panel Member for a Fostering Agency, and I am a volunteer peer supporter for beneficiaries of a Police Charity – which means I have a very good understanding of trauma, safeguarding, and the protection of vulnerable others.

My professional experience further extends to:

  • Extensive general and Occupational Health Nursing / management experience – in Public and Private sector organisations
  • Workplace Health and Wellbeing
  • Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Industrial Disease

In terms of collaboration and networking to enhance my professional experience, I am a peer reviewer which involves reviewing publications / documents pertaining to Community Nursing practice and standards. I  also sit on several specialist interest groups that influence policy development in the community Nursing arena; this includes my involvement and participation in:

  • QNI Long Covid Nurse Expert Group (LCNEG)
  • Task and finish Group for the NHS National Community Nursing Specification Framework under the Strategic Programme for Primary Care
  • Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) co-creation group – focusing on the development of accessible Occupational Health provision for SME’s
  • The Faculty of Occupational Nursing (FOHN) – peer reviewer – reviewing standards and documents aligned to improve practise, and influence policy development
  • Occupational Health Programme Development Expert Group (NHS – Wales)
